Inês Alves, mother of a 10 years-old girl that has achondroplasia and founder of Beyond Achondroplasia, and ANDO Portugal (The National Association of Skeletal Dysplasias), is conducting a research study included in her PhD project dedicated to people over 18 years-old with achondroplasia.

The main objective of this research project is the physical (body measurements, strength and resistence) and biomechanical (body movement) characterization of people with achondroplasia. It also aims to evaluate to what extent physical activity, exercise and adapted sports influence these characteristics.

The study's evaluations will take place on July 1, 2 and 3, 2023 at the Neuromuscular Biomechanics Laboratory of the University of Texas at Austin, with the expert guidance and collaboration from Richard R. Neptune, PhD, a world leader in computer modelling and simulation techniques to analyse human movement. Evaluations will take around 1:30h per person.

Location: Neuromuscular Biomechanics Lab
University of Texas at Austin

Anyone with achondroplasia can participate in this study, regardless of their physical activity habits, weight or gender. Participants will benefit from the following:

  • Know your cardiac and respiratory capacity
  • Know your strength, energy and balance
  • Perform evaluations in movement analysis
  • Receive a report of the evaluations made

To participate in this research project, please fill out the form you will find further down on this page. You will be able to choose the date and time that best suits you within the possible dates. If you need additional information please contact the principal investigator, Inês Alves, by email: Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam.
