Beyond Achondroplasia

Growing together with Clara

Sleep apnea

Clara´s first polysomnography was done in November 2012, when she was 3 months old. We toke Clara to S. Marta Hospital in Lisbon at 10pm, 10 th November. A technical assistant put the device on her. After that, we went to our relative house back in Lisbon. When Clara went to sleep, at about 11pm, we put a nasal piece in the opening of her nostrils.

Waking up from a heavy night!
Although looks like Clara is carring a bomb, she handled quite well that big machine over her during 10 hours

And there were more holders and wires inside her babygrow, under the polysomnography device. As these are pictures from the second test, Clara weared her CPAP mask also that connect with the oxigen tube

In the first test, the device started to work at 11.30pm and stopped reading data at 7.30am. She slept all night long.

The results were the following:

The second test was done in January 2013, when she was 5 months old, this time using the CPAP during the night, so there were great results improvements. Because of that, the tracheostomy hypothesis was put aside. Specially because she accepts well the CPAP. We just have to put it while Clara is deeply sleeping. Never before. Then, everything works fine, with no stressful moments for her.
